PCSO’s Update

Cold-Caller in Hemingford Grey Police have received reports of a cold-caller operating in Hemingford Grey this week, being very persistent and a nuisance to at least two elderly residents, both ladies living alone:

  • Glebe Road, Hemingford Grey – A resident of Glebe Road reported that she had been approached three times by a very persistent cold-caller, who said that he was collecting on behalf of the ‘Sue Ryder’ national charity, on Friday afternoon, 3rd The man had stopped the lady once in the street, then called twice at her house, despite being politely told that the lady was not interested. Police gave advice about calling 101, the non-emergency number, at the time of the incident if cold-callers are ever being a nuisance. (Ref CC-03112017-0442)
  • Weir Road – Following the cold-calling incident described above, police received a call on Saturday 4th November reporting that a ‘Sue Ryder’ collector had called upon a lady living on Weir Road a few days previously and had spent a very long time at her house trying to persuade her to sign up for regular donations or make a one-off payment. (Ref CC-04112017-0332)

Houghton Hill – Police closed the A1123 at the Hartford roundabout for a time on Saturday evening, 4th November, following an incident on Houghton Hill in which a cyclist was hit by a car which failed to stop. The car was found further along the A1123 with a broken windscreen, and the driver was given a road-side breath-test, which returned a positive result. He was arrested for driving with excess alcohol. Meanwhile ambulances arrived to attend to the injured cyclist and the damaged car was towed away. The cyclist was taken to hospital where his injuries were described as serious but not life-threatening. (Ref CC-04112017-0385)

Potton Road, Hilton – Police received a report of hare-coursers seen in a silver-coloured off-road vehicle on land off Potton Road, Hilton, on Sunday morning, 5th November. Countryside Watch was notified but when officers arrived at the location, tyre tracks across the fields showed where the coursers had escaped towards the A1198. (Ref CC-05112017-0141)
