Overnight closures for routine maintenance and A428 Scheme Improvements

A428 between Wyboston roundabout, Cambridge Road roundabout and Caxton Gibbet roundabout between Thursday 9 May – Wednesday 15 May 2024

What is happening

Before we can begin working on the new junction and slip roads at Cambridge Road in mid-May, we need to install a 40mph speed restriction, roadworks signs, safety barriers, narrow lanes, speed cameras and CCTV.

I am writing to let you know that we will be closing the A428 between St Neots and Caxton Gibbet to undertake this preparation work.

For safety reasons the works will be carried out under overnight closures at the following locations:
• Wyboston/Crown roundabout to Tithe Farm/Cambridge Road roundabout, Thursday 9 8pm – Friday 10 May 5am. (routine maintenance via National Highways East Ops )
• Tithe Farm/Cambridge Road roundabout to Caxton Gibbet roundabout, Monday 13th – Tuesday 14th – Wednesday 15th May, 8pm – 5am. (scheme works)

To avoid closing the road multiple times, we are collaborating with the National Highways East maintenance team.

Why is this restriction needed?

Once complete, the narrow lanes will be in place until spring 2025 and will allow additional space at the side of the road to provide a safer working environment for our workforce to complete the following:
• Completion of earthworks embankments next to and across the existing road.
• Construction of new junction slip roads.
• Road surfacing works.
• Road construction including kerbs and footpaths.
• Completion of new drainage ditches, gullies, and piped networks.

We will do our best to complete the work as quickly as possible, however all dates are subject to change due to weather and operational requirements.

We apologise in advance for any inconvenience you may experience during the upcoming roadworks.

Please remember:
• Traffic approaching the closure location shortly before 9pm is likely to be subject to the diversion while the closure is put in place.
• We always try to stick to timings; however, these closures may be amended due to poor weather or operational reasons.
• You can get real-time traffic information via www.trafficengland.com.

County Broadband

Message from County Broadband:

You might have seen us in your neighbourhood as we carried out surveys, assessing the best routes available to install our full fibre cables. This will allow us to connect our network directly to each property to provide the benefits of a faster and more reliable broadband service.

We have appointed our build partners to help us get the work completed and they have shared their schedule of work with us so we can keep you updated on what you can expect in the near future.

What can you expect?

We started our work in January and will deliver this project in stages across the village so you may well notice an increased presence of County Broadband our Build Partner engineers in your area.

We always aim to keep disruption to a minimum. However in some circumstances, due to the nature of our works, we may need to temporarily close some roads. We apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause. Please visit https://one.network/ to keep up-to-date with road closures and diversions in your area.

Our Build Partner will be posting letters to provide notice of any works on your street. We have also asked them to provide advance warning signs to communicate any road closures around the village.

Whilst the work is taking place, someone from our Operations Team may come and knock on your door. This is to carry out surveys in readiness for your connection. You can find more information on the back of this letter on the different ways we can connect you to our Full Fibre Hyperfast Broadband network.

As long as everything goes to plan, we should complete the work within 12 months, but sometimes unforeseen delays may occur which might impact our programme of work, and we will provide updates on our progress on a quarterly basis. Once our works are completed, It may then take up to 12 weeks for your property to be connected to the network.

If you would like any further information please refer to your Customer Portal, visit https://service.countybroadband.co.uk

And one last thing…

We would like to take this opportunity to say thank you in advance for your patience and understanding. If you have pre-ordered a service with us, we will write to you again with further updates.

We look forward to updating you again soon,
