Report from the Rural Crime Action Team. Unfortunately we have, again, had a few thefts and attempted from Church roofs. After the spate of thefts last year a number of churches had security devices fitted these have proved invaluable, very recently the church at Great Gidding had an attempted theft but the roof was covered by an alarm which activated. These unscrupulous thieves have no consideration for the cost of replacement and repairs or the huge risk it creates for internal damage to the church from wind and rain once the lead has been stripped off. To many areas the Church is the hub of the community and this sort of crime can have a huge impact upon that community. We need your help to combat this sort of crime. You can help us with this by being vigilant and reporting anything or anyone suspicious on the 101 number. Should you come across a crime being committed then ring 999. When you call we need as much information as possible that being descriptions of people, including their clothing and make, model and most importantly a registration number of any vehicles. The RCAT team have been out conducting high visibility visits to as many Churches as possible offering security advice and warning them of the recent thefts. Please help us by being our eyes and ears of the community.
