PCSO’s Update

There has been an attempted burglary at Hayling Avenue, Little Paxton. This offence occurred yesterday (Sunday 12th March 2017). At approximately 17:00 hours, the victims have left their property and have returned at 18:30 hours to find that attempts have been made to jemmy a wooden door at the front of the property. No entry was gained and nothing was taken.

Church Lane, Hilton – Thieves broke into the garage of a house on Church Lane, Hilton, during the night of Tuesday 7th / Wednesday 8th March and stole a quantity of power tools from inside. In order to enter the garage, they appear to have pushed a van that was parked in front of the doors out of the way. Other valuable items in the garage were not taken, and it is possible that they were interrupted whilst committing the crime.

A14 Westbound – Police closed a section of the A14 near Galley Hill from 10:15 am to 12:15 pm on Wednesday 8th March whilst the Fire Brigade dealt with a suspicious chemical spill in a lay-by on the westbound carriageway. A quantity of white powder was seen to be changing colour on contact with the wet road surface but it later emerged that the powder was not hazardous and was cleared up by the Highway Authorities.

A14 Westbound – Police were called to a traffic incident near Junction 26 on the westbound A14 at 8:20 am on Thursday 9th March in which four cars had run into the back of each other. An ambulance was needed for one injured person and one immobilised vehicle needed to be towed away from the scene, but all was clear by 9:45 am.

Common Lane, Hemingford Abbots – Two houses on Common Lane were burgled overnight on Saturday 11th / Sunday 12th March:

  • Thieves entered a large detached house through a back patio door that may have been left unlocked, taking two ladies’ handbags, containing cash and keys, before leaving via a kitchen door. The handbags and keys were later found abandoned in the garden.
  • CCTV caught images of 5 men climbing over a wall and into the front garden of a house on Common Lane, at just after 1:00 am on the Sunday. The men are then seen to enter an unlocked outhouse, from which they emerged 30 minutes later carrying bottles of alcohol and a small wall safe which they had removed from its mountings and stolen. The safe was later found abandoned.

Police have carried out enquiries at neighbouring properties and investigations into both offences are continuing.
