Cheerio – Area Commander’s Final Update

Good Afternoon South Cambs Resident,

I’m writing to let you know that this will be my final update as your area commander as I have recently received a promotion to Temporary Superintendent and will shortly be leaving South Cambs to take up a new role in our Control Centre.

I would like to thank you all for the incredible support that you have given your local policing team and I over the last four years.  In that time we have:

  • Worked with you to reduce crime through Operations like Op Hunter and Op Oaklands (some of you will remember our headline grabbing balloons…)
  • Helped drive modern day slavery out of South Cambs with our award winning Anti-Slavery Summit and proactive operations at car washes.
  • Introduced new ways for you to engage and help us-  including online reporting for parking, the Bad Wolf Test,  live streaming of neighbourhood panel meetings, daily e-cops alerts…
  • Launched Speed Watch Teams across the area, created the South Cambs Speed Team and achieved the highest levels of victim satisfaction with the police anywhere in the country.

The new commander will be Superintendent Jon Hutch, and my deputy – Inspector Jayne Drury will be remaining in post for the time being to ensure that there is a smooth transition and you don’t notice any change to the service you receive.

It has been a privilege to serve South Cambs for these last four years and I leave knowing that you will continue to be served by some of the most professional and compassionate police officers you could hope for.

Best wishes,

Chief Inspector James Sutherland
Area Commander – South Cambs
